You are someone who gives to others.

Perhaps you are…

  • A parent who is deeply devoted to nurturing your children and bring them up to be

  • A teacher or a nurse

  • A leader in your company, business, or community

You also identify as a Creative.

an artist, writer, musician, gardener, chef…

Amidst the demands of your daily life, finding the time and energy to create has become more and more difficult.

But you know that maintaining a creative life is essential to who you are what you have to offer the world.

You don’t believe that your life is requiring you to give up this part of yourself, but you’ve haven’t found a way to make it all fit.

It’s likely we share a point of view on some important matters…

You see the complexity of the stresses and strains at play in both human culture and the natural world, and you can tell that they are getting louder and more dangerous;

You have a deep gut feeling that the only way through the growing darkness is by the light of the small candle carried by the soul of every individual;

You know that by becoming more connected to your deep inner Self, you become more connected to the Soul of the World, more capable of transcending partisanship, and more empowered to create new ways of being;

You believe that the world destined to emerge from the current chaos will be woven together by those who have picked up the loose thread within themselves and then followed it back to the Center to see what they might do with it;

And you have a desire to be an example to those who look to you, feed the inner fire of those who will follow you, and be a place where others might reignite their own little blaze in the case that it has been shrouded by the challenges of the day.

On Children

On Adulthood

On Spirituality

You sense that there is something more to our existence than pure material reality. You’re not quite sure what to make of the concept of God, but you know there is something bigger than yourself at work in the world. You are taken with the notion that there is a world behind (or beside, or beneath) the world that we can readily see with our eyes and touch with our fingers. You visit this Otherworld in your dreams; it comes through in your artistic creations; you feel connected to it when you are in Nature and when you gaze at the night sky. Perhaps you’ve been interested in mysticism and/or esoterics, and you can point to a few moments in your life in which you experienced powerfully meaningful synchronicities.

On Science

You have a deep respect and a sense of wonder for all that Science has discovered and accomplished. You also understand that there are some things that cannot be measured or proved through empirical means. You know that, at the heart of both scientific and religious study, there is the unified motivation to understand the underlying principles that govern our existence. You delight at the fact that there is so much analogous truth between the disciplines of esoteric spirituality and the sciences of the unseen (quantum mechanics, astrophysics, neuropsychology, etc.).

On Money

You know there is a reason why we refer to money as currency; like electricity, it only works when it is flowing. Your desire to make money is driven by an even deeper desire to give it away – to your children, to your community, to strangers in need – as well as a knowledge that you can do more of what you came into the world to don’t when you do have to worry about making money.

On Fate vs. Free Will

Your instincts tell you that the Universe is accomplishing something through the existence of the world. You have respect for that Mystery, and you see yourself as a part of it. You understand that the World is in a continuous state of creation and re-creation and that you are an agent in the process. Thus, you seek what some call True Will, pursuing the lessons you are in this world to learn, that you might be a contributor to something beautiful, wise, and timeless.

On Work and Career

On Relationships

You know that the richest relationships take the form of a mutual witnessing of the personal truth and divinity of another human. You also know how hard it is to do, because the stories we carry with us cause us to have less noble expectations of one another. You believe the most important relationship a person can have is the relationship with their own self and soul, and that while society still pays lip service to that idea, it has forgotten how to teach its children the methods for cultivating such a relationship.

On Good and Evil

You see the common notions of good and evil as two sides of the same coin. You know that there is nothing that another human is capable of doing that you are not also capable of doing in some way, shape, or form. You believe that the things we often call evil are rooted in our inclination to split the world into dualities – us and them, scarcity and surplus, etc. – and that good and evil is one of those dualities. You strive to resolve those dualities through integrating them in yourself and seeing the underlying Oneness in the world.

On Creativity and Human Progress

You are suspicious about the notion of human progress – and the way in which our technology has replaced our gods – to the extent that it often requires our tearing down (rather than the stewardship) of the natural world. In reflecting on the expression, “necessity is the mother of invention,” you are deeply skeptical about the true necessity of much of what is generated by our industrialized consumer-capitalist society. You believe that, alternatively, our progress can be measured by the degree to which we are able to live in symbiosis and balance with the rest of Nature and the Cosmos. Thus, our art is the most necessary output of our human creativity, because it is through our art that we realize our True Nature and Purpose in Life.

And finally…

You know what it means to seek. You know what it means to feel lost, to be stuck on the fence, to stand frustrated in the middle of the road. You know there is more – more to you, and more to the life you can imagine yourself living. You have more to give and more to create. You can sense some deep part of yourself that is just waiting to come alive. You long to take hold of that part of you, to wrap your hands and your arms around it. But it feels like a ghost – something vaporous; or perhaps it feels as though that part of you is hidden on the other side of a veil that is heavy and thick and opaque.

You are no stranger to this journey. You’ve sought out this place of inner flourishing before, and your seeking has brought you closer. But now you find yourself needing to set out again, away from a world that threatens to grind you down until there is nothing left of you. You have more responsibilities now, which makes it harder; but it is clear that you are in need of a deeper well of energy and resources if you are to occupy the life to which you feel called.
